Cooking and eating to Nourish Ourselves

It's not just what we eat - but what we are able to digest

Digestion is one of the main keys to a healthy life and, although I am not an Ayurvedic consultant, what I have learnt from my own studies and personal experience of the benefits of Ayurvedic cooking and eating is that to improve digestion we need to 'balance the doshas'.  For more information about this subject from Sharon Jackson, the very knowledgable lady who I first consulted with, please click here.

Learning about Ayurveda has transformed my life from being someone who was overweight (76kgs!) and in pain (knees, back and hips!) to someone who is carrying 16kgs less in her body and can now run upstairs pain-free! Thank you again Sharon for getting me on track :-)

I believe it is important to share what we learn so I would love to do just that so that you can apply to your own life what resonates with you.  Below are some photos of the delicious meals you can learn about and enjoy on the retreats and day courses.

My biggest 'take-away'

I'm not talking about 'take-away' as in take-away food - as that hardly exists here in rural France anyway!  What I mean is what I took away from my first personal Ayurvedic consultation with Sharon Jackson. Although I wasn't overly concerned about my weight (I just thought it was my age!! - wrong!!), Sharon pointed to my belly and told me that that was where a lot of toxins were being stored - not a nice thought ;-) . She then went on to describe 'Agni' - something I had never heard of.

Agni is your digestive fire - your ability to digest what lands in your stomach when you eat.  It's at its strongest between 12 noon and 2pm so this is the best time to eat the main meal of the day. Different types of food affect your 'Agni' in different ways and herbs and spices can help strengthen your digestive fire.  I invite you to explore Ayurveda in more detail by going to see a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner, such as Sharon Jackson - or you can start by reading some excellent books on the subject, such as this one: "Ayurvedic Cooking for self-healing by Vasant Lad"
The food you will eat on our 'Nourish Ourselves' retreats is made with fresh, local produce; nothing has been processed and it's all organic where possible.  We can also cater for vegetarians and people with gluten and lactose intolerances   We have an excellent organic supermarket not far from the retreat which is worth a visit during your stay.  For further information on our forthcoming day and residential courses please send us an email.
